Symptom:
P0197-ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW
When Monitored and Set Condition:
P0197-ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW
When Monitored: Ignition on.
Set Condition: When the PCM recognizes the engine oil temperature sensor signal goes
below a specific value.
OIL TEMPERATURE VOLTAGE BELOW 1.0 VOLT
ENGINE OIL TEMP SENSOR
(G61) ENGINE OIL TEMP SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
(G61) ENGINE OIL TEMP SENSOR CIRCUIT SHORTED TO (K900) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT
PCM
TEST

Ignition on, engine not running.
With the DRBIII , read DTCs and record the related Freeze Frame data.
With the DRBIII , read the Engine Oil Temp Sensor voltage.
Is the ECT Sensor voltage below 1.0 volt?
Yes → Go To 2
→ Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION Symptom (Diagnos-

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Engine Oil Temp harness connector.
Ignition on, engine not running.
With the DRBIII , read Engine Oil Temp voltage.
Is the voltage above 1.0 volt?
Yes → Replace the Engine Oil Temp Sensor.
→ Go To 3
No

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the PCM harness connectors.
Measure the resistance between ground and the (G61) Engine Oil Temp Sensor
Signal circuit at the EOT Sensor harness connector.
Is the resistance below 100 ohms?
Yes → Repair the short to ground in the (G61) Engine Oil Temp Sensor
→ Go To 4
No
