Configure the Password Complexity
Password complexity provides options that increase or decrease the level of password security
by adjusting specific local password requirements. By default, password complexity is
disabled, placing no restrictions on passwords created for local accounts. To enable password
complexity, complete the following procedure:
1. From the Enable prompt, type configure terminal , and press E
2. From the Global Configuration prompt, type security , and press E
3. From the Security Configuration prompt, type password complexity , and press E
4. Type end , and press E
Once completed, the following options can be enabled or disabled. To enable, simply enter the
command as shown. To disable, type no password complexity from the Security Configu‐
ration prompt.
The options listed in Table 3‐7 are enabled or disabled at the Security Configuration prompt.

Description
If enabled, all usernames and passwords are case sensitive.
If enabled, it requires all passwords to contain at least one numeric
character.
Sets the minimum length of the password.
If enabled, it requires all passwords to have at least one upper‐case
alphabet character.
If enabled, passwords cannot start or end with a numeric character.
If enabled, it requires all passwords to have at least one upper‐case
alphabet character.
If enabled, it requires all passwords to have at least one upper‐case
alphabet character.
