5 Clean up any fuel that may have spilled.
6 Start the engine from the ground controls and
check the fuel filter/water separator and vent
plug for leaks.
Explosion and fire hazard. If a fuel
leak is discovered, keep any
additional personnel from entering
the area and do not operate the
machine. Repair the leak
immediately.
Deutz Models:
1 Open the engine side cover and locate the fuel
filter/water separator.
2 Loosen the drain plug located at the bottom of
the filter. Allow the water to drain into a suitable
container until fuel starts to come out.
Immediately tighten the drain plug.

If the fuel filter is completely
drained, you must prime the fuel
filter/water separator before
starting the engine. Refer to D-9 in
this section, Replace The Fuel
Filter/Water Separator - Deutz
Diesel Models, for instructions on
how to prime the fuel filter/water
separator.
