21 Remove the pin retaining fastener from the
boom lift cylinder rod-end pin. Use a soft metal
drift to remove the pin.
Crushing hazard. The boom lift
cylinder will fall unless it is
properly supported.
22 Lower the rod end of the lift cylinder onto
support blocks. Protect the cylinder rod from
damage.
23 Remove the pin retaining fastener from the
boom pivot pin.
24 Use a soft metal drift to remove the boom pivot
pin, then carefully remove the boom from the
machine.
Crushing hazard. The boom could
become unbalanced and fall when
it is removed from the machine if it
is not supported by the overhead
crane.
How to Disassemble the Boom
Complete disassembly of the
boom is only necessary
if the outer or inner boom tubes
must be replaced. The extension
cylinder can be removed without
completely disassembling the
boom. See 4-4, How to Remove
the Extension Cylinders .
1 Remove the boom. See 4-2, How to Remove
the Boom .
2 Place blocks under the extension cylinder for
support.

3 Remove the external snap rings from the
extension cylinder barrel-end pivot pin at the
pivot end of the number 1 boom tube. Use a
soft metal drift to remove the pin.
4 Remove and label the wear pads from the top
side of the number 1 boom tube at the platform
end of the boom.
5 Attach a lifting strap from an overhead crane to
the number 2 and number 3 boom tubes at the
platform end of the boom for support.
6 Support and slide the number 2 and 3 boom
tubes out of the number 1 boom tube. Place the
number 2 and 3 boom tubes on blocks for
support.
7 Remove and label the wear pads from the top
side of the number 2 boom tube at the platform
end of the boom.
8 Remove the trunnion pin retaining fasteners at
the base end of the number 2 tube. Use a slide
hammer to remove the trunnion pins.
9 Carefully rotate the base end of the extension
cylinder until the pin mounting bore is in a
vertical position.

BOOM COMPONENTS
Pay careful attention to the
location and amount of shims
used with each wear pad.
Crushing hazard. The number 2
and 3 boom tubes could become
unbalanced and fall when they are
removed from the number 1 boom
tube if they are not properly
supported.
During removal, the overhead
crane strap will need to be
carefully adjusted for proper
balancing.
