RE-ASSEMBLING THE ENGINE

RE-FITTING THE CRANKSHAFl'
- Fasten cylinder block to special stand •
• Reaove five bearing caps and rear packing
gasket supporting cap •
• Wipe all half-bearings and their housings.
-Fit all half-bearings In their respective
housings (Fig. 14).
Note: all upper half-bearings (on cylinder
block side) are fitted 1Ith a lubricating
hole: In addition, Nos. 2 and 4 upper and
lower intenaedtate half-bearings are fitted
with a lubricating groove.
The other half-bearings are smooth (Fig.15).

Note: these packing seals are supplied pre-
forud and to the appropriate length.
- Use grease to fit bearing half-rings to central
bearing cheeks (Fig. 16) with anti-friction
•atertal facing outwards.
- Wipe all crankplns and crankshaft journals, and
fit crankshaft si•ultaneously on Its five
bearings: previously, the crankshaft must have
been flushed and blown with co1pressed air.

- Re-fit bearing caps in appropriate order, and
tighten bearing cap screws to torque, starting
with central cap screws.
Note: half-bearing anchorlngs aust face one
another, only one fitting orientation Is
possl b 1 e.
- Re-fit packing seal cap and tighten It to
torque.
- Rotate crankshaft over several turns (clockwise
and anttclock•tse) for perfect fl ttlng of
packing seals.
