Second ratio
The
selection of position 2
only allows the
first
two ratios to be used;
the
3rd
ratio (or
di red
drive) cannot be
engaged, whatever the speed
of
the vehicle.
In this position, therefore, it
is possible:
- to hold the
second
ratio beyond the normal speed
level,
which
ensures
automatic switching to
the
3rd
ratio;
- to gear down manually into second
gear
under
special driving conditions (for
mountain
rlriving,
for instance).
1) First ratio
Selecting
this combination enables the driver
to
engage the first ratio manually.
However, a safety system prevents
direct
shifting
into first gear
If
this r2.nge is selected
at
a
speed
higher than
45
krn/h approximately.
This
safety
system prevents
the occurrence of
excessive engine speeds
and
even
of
the
dangerous
sudden "braking
effect" which would
otherwise
result fro11 selecting the wrong ratio.
