REMOVING AND RE
-
FITTING THE ENGINE

(Applicable to manual gear box vehicles only)
Those workshops where no lif ting ramp Is available
may yet
re~ove
the engine by leaving the gear box
in
position on the vehicle.
The R.H. and L.H. engi ne Mountings must be
removed, on the cylinder block side, and the
stabilizer rod must be disconnected from the side
members for easier engine removal.
Consequently, re-fitting operati ons wi
l
l be a
little
more
difficult and will call for the use of
a small jack to relieve the front end
of
the gear
box and to enable it to be fitted in better
a 1 i gnement w! th the eng! ne,
Two operators will be required to locate and re-
fit the engine at the end of the gear box to
enable the crankshaft pu
l
ley to be rotated, and
for proper guiding of the (previously centred
)
clutch plate grooves and of the gear box input
shaft.

The engine-drive
uni
t may be re11oved
and
extracted
from underneath on condition, however, that the
sling is
fitted
differently
around
the engine.
The sling 1ust, on the one hand, hook on the lifting
plate and, on the other hand, run around the exhaust
mani
fol
d
at the centre, opposite the 3rd spark-plug;
in this manner, the rear end of the gear box, will
tilt downwards, and may be cleared more easily (Fig.
10).
To carry out this operation satisfactorily, it is
advisable to remove the gear

ft linkage and to
turn I

towards the rear of t he vehicle: similarly,
the fan and
