REMOVAL AND RE- FITIING OF
CYLINDER HEAD ON CAR

only
when the engine is cold, i.e. af

hours.
- Place vehicle on a lifting ramp, and fit covers
on
fenders.
- Drain cool!ng system
through
cylinder
block drain
plug and radia
t
or cock.
- Disconnect battery earthin
g
cable,
-
Remove air
fi
1
ter
w
i th
air
inlet
con nection to
- carburettor, an
d
oi
1
fume
recovery
system.
-
Disconnect
accel erator cable and sheath.
- Disconnect servo-brake pipe
on header,
an
d
both
air-co ndition er hoses on
dash
panel.
- Disconnect
choking-coil and
thennlstor wir-es.
-Disconnect ign
it
i
on
distributor vac uum tube,
fuel
delivery
pipe
to carburettor, and petrol
pump
supply pipe.
- Disconnect water pump
to
water header hose,
and
radiator upper hose
(on
cylinder head si de).
-
Disconnect
both
screws fastening
H
.V. harness
shield
to
cyli
nd
er head.
- Disc,onnect spark plugs.
- Remove 9 cyli
nder
head
cover fastening nuts, an
d
remove cover.
-
Turn crankshaft pulley
to
set piston No. It at
T.D.C., and cylinder No. 1 valves In balanced
posi tl on.
-
Disconnect coil l. V. and
H.
V. wires, and remove
ignition distributor cap with its
harness.
-Mark position of distributor and rotor.
- loosen distributor retaining cla111p to remove
distributor.
- Resaove petrol pump with
Its
Insulating spacer and
l
ts two paper gaskets.
- Unscrew both upper nuts fastening exhaust flange
to manifold.
-
Raise
11
fti ng ramp.
- Unscrew both lower nuts fastening exhaust flange
to manifold, release both exhaust pipe suspension
rings, and clear flange fro11 manifold
- Proceed as follows to
unload.

Unlock
and loosen plugging screw through cover
opening;
remove it, taking care not to allow
it to fall in lower section, using an 11 mm
socket wrenc
h
fitted
with a magnet section of

mm
in
the
cent

ed
to the "vi
bradamp

).
Note: if the retainer or screw falls in, it
can be
r~overed
from the channel, cast in
this purposi
In
the timing gear
cover;
- through opening, insert a 3 mm
hexagonal
male
wrench In piston ho

turn
wrench to the
rig
ht to fre
e
the shoe from the effec
t
of the
spring.
- Lower lifting ramp.
• loosen cylinder
head,
proceeding in reverse
order from
tf
gh teni ng sequence, and remove
screws.

Cylinder Headn).
• Remove
8
screws from camshaft front cover.
-
Loosen cylinder
head, and remove front cover.
-
Plug
openi ng of timing gear cover wit
h
a clean
cloth.
-
Unlock
3 screws fasteni ng camshaft sprocket,
and remove screws.
• Clear sprocket from Its location, and remove
chain from sprocket.
