GENERAl
ENGINE LUBRICATIOO
The systa. Is as follows:
Pressure lubrication for:
- shaft asseably and connecting rods,
-camshaft bearings and rocking-lever shafts.
Splash lubrication for:
- cams and rocking lever shoes
Projection lubrication for:
- cylinder barrels, pistons and gudgeon pins,
va 1 ve

DESCRIPriON OF ENGINE LU.bRIC..TING
SYSTEld
A gear type pump draws the oil contained in the
oi 1 sump (4 li tres) through a strainer.
This pump Is driven by a sprocket controlled by
a single chain and a gear fitted at the end of
the crankshaft.
The tension of this chain Is
adjusted by means of spacers, which are
inserted, at the assembly stage, under the base
of the pump.
A relief valve, housed In the pump body, regulates
the pressure required to lubricate the engine, and
allows the surplus to be recirculated.
When It leaves the pump, the oil runs up a channel
drilled in the cylinder block, and then runs
through the full-flow filter cartridge.
The filter cartridge Is fastened on the cylinder
block left-hand side face, on an aluminium base;
after running through the fi 1 ter, the oil reaches
a
di stributor line drilled longitudinally in the
cylinder block and feeding the crankshaft
bearings and, consequently, the crankpins.
A vertical duct In the cylinder block l.H. front
face directs the oil up to the first cylinder
head setscrew hole.
Fr011 this point, a channel
takes the oil towards the inlet rocking-lever
spindle which In turn, feeds the exhaust rocking-
lever spindle through the ca11shaft front joumal
which, on this occasion, Is lubricated.
The
rocking-lever drilled spindles allow, on each
shaft, for the lubrication of the rocking-levers
and of the camshaft bearings other than the front
bearing.
A relief valve, fitted on the oil pump body,
normal] y ll mi ts the oil pressure in the systOOJ to
4 to 4.5 bars at 3,000 r. p.m., at approximately
80°C.
