RE-ASSEMBLING THE ENGINE

- Ftt each connecting rod/piston assembly In
position in Its cylinder, coapresslng piston
rings by means of an expanding bush (Fig. 23),
and with piston reference 1ark set the right
~:~ay.
This reference mark 1ust be facing the front of
the engine (Fig.
2~).

1° Avoid striking top of piston, even with a
wooden handle, to force it down into
cyll nder.
2° Avoid shock aarklng connecti ng rod big end
when fitting It in position.

- Tum cyltnder block upside down, and fit connecting
rod caps (Fig. 25).
Assembling cap to body must
be done freely by hand In correct direction. Half-
bearing notches must face one another, and must be
turned towards oil filter side.
- Tighten connecting rod nuts to torque (take care
wl
th
dl rec tl on of nuts).
- Manually check that connecting rod assembll es can
turn freely, without any tight spot (If necessary,
see play checking procedure, section AO).
- On each crankptn, check connecting rod side play
(Fig. 26).
