ence of the wheel so the rotor lies between the
blocks and does not rest on them.
Also protect the rotor when transporting a wheel
to a dealership or tire specialist. Do not place a
wheel in a car trunk or truck bed without protecting
the rotor from side impact.
If the rotor is knocked out of true by a side im-
pact, a pulsation will be felt in the brake lever or
pedal when braking. Since brake rotors are too thin
to be trued, damaged rotors must be replaced.

WHEEL INSPECTION

During inspection, compare all measurement to
the specification in Table 1. Replace any part that is
damaged, out of specification or worn to the service
limit.
1. Remove the wheel as described in this chapter.
2. Inspect the seals (A, Figure 3) for excessive
wear, hardness, cracks or other damage. If neces-
sary, replace the seals as described in the front or
rear hub section later in this chapter.
3. Inspect the bearings as follows:
a. Turn each bearing inner race (B, Figure 3) by
hand. Each bearing must turn smoothly with
no trace of roughness, binding or excessive
noise. Some axial play (side-to-side) is nor-
mal, but radial play (up and down) must be
negligible. See Figure 4. If either wheel bear-
ing is damaged, replace them both as de-
scribed later in this chapter.
