2. Remove the push pins (C, Figure 7) from each
side of the mud guard (D) and lift the mud guard
from the fender.
3. Disconnect the five-pin taillight/brake light con-
nector (A, Figure 31) from its harness mate. Note
how the wire is routed through the back of the frame.
It will have to be rerouted along the same path during
installation. Release the wire from any cable holders
(B, Figure 31) that secure it to the frame.
NOTE
On Silverado models, have an assis
tant hold the backrest bracket so it
will not scratch the fender as the
fender bolts are removed.
4. Remove the fender bolts (A, Figure 32) and re-
move the fender bracket (B) from one side. On
Silverado models, watch for the spacer between the
fender and the backrest bracket (C, Figure 32).
5. Repeat Step 4 on the other side. On Silverado
models, carefully lift the backrest from the fender.
Since the spacers are removed, the backrest could
scrape the fender and scratch the paint.
6. Remove the seat bracket bolts (Figure 33) and
remove the seat bracket from the fender. This
bracket is directional. Place an arrow on the bracket
indicating forward.
7. Lift the fender from the motorcycle.
8. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the
following:
a. Install the seat bracket so the arrow made dur-
ing removal points forward.
b. On Silverado models, install the spacers be-
tween the fender and the backrest.
c. Torque the seat bracket bolts (Figure 33) to 7
N•m (62 in.-lb.)
d. Torque the fender bolts (A, Figure 32) to 26
N•m (19 ft.-lb.).
e. Route the taillight/brake light wire along the
same path noted during removal.
WINDSHIELD (SILVERADO MODELS)
Removal/Installation
1. Remove the mounting bolts (A, Figure 34) on
each side and remove the windshield from the
windshield bracket.
2. Installation is the reverse of removal. If install-
ing the two mounting bolts (A, Figure 34) is diffi-
cult, loosen the lower button head bolt (B) to make
alignment easier.
