14. Inspect the reservoir and hose for cracks, wear
or other signs of damage. Replace as necessary.
BRAKE PEDAL/FOOTREST
ASSEMBLY
Removal
The rear brake master cylinder and reservoir
come out with the brake pedal assembly.
1. Drain the brake fluid from the rear brakes as de-
scribed in this chapter.
2. Remove the banjo bolt (A, Figure 73) and sepa-
rate the brake hose (B) from the rear brake master
cylinder. Insert the hose into a recloseable plastic
bag so brake fluid will not leak onto the motorcycle.
3. Remove the mounting bolt (A, Figure 74) and
lift the cover (B) from the rear brake reservoir.
4. Disconnect the rear brake switch connector (A,
Figure 75) and unhook the switch spring (B) from
the brake lever.
5. Remove the cable tie (C, Figure 75) that secures
the brake reservoir hose to the frame downtube.
6. Loosen the master cylinder bracket bolts (A,
Figure 76) and the footrest bracket bolts (B). Note
that the indexing pin on the master cylinder bracket
engages the hole in the frame (Figure 77).
7. Remove the bolts and lower the brake
pedal/footrest assembly from the frame. Watch for
the reservoir. It will come out with the assembly.
8. If necessary, remove the brake pedal as follows:
a. Remove the cotter pin (A, Figure 59) and pull
the clevis pin from the master cylinder clevis.
b. Separate the master cylinder clevis (A, Fig-
ure 60) from the brake lever (B).
c. Loosen the clamp bolt (A, Figure 78) on the
brake lever. Note that the index mark on the
