using the wood, bleeding the brake
will not be necessary when installing
the wheel.
3. Remove the front fender as described in Chapter
Fourteen.
4. Note that the edge of the fork tube aligns with
the top of the upper fork bridge (Figure 3). The fork

leg must be reinstalled to the same height during as-
sembly.
5A. On XVS1100 models, perform the following:
a. Loosen the front flasher clamp bolt.
NOTE
A single clamp bolt is used on each
side of the lower fork bridge on
XVS1100 models.
b. Loosen the upper fork bridge clamp bolt (A,
Figure 4) and the lower fork bridge clamp
bolt (A, Figure 5).
c. Loosen the clamp bolt on the turn signal
bracket.
d. Rotate the fork leg, and slide the fork tube (B,
Figure 5) from the upper fork bridge, the turn
signal bracket and the lower fork bridge.
5B. On XVS1100A models, perform the following:
CAUTION
The edges of the fork covers are
sharp. Wear gloves and exercise cau
tion to avoid injury.
a. Remove the fuel tank (Chapter Eight) so it
will not be scratched or marred.
CAUTION
Cover the front fender and frame with
a heavy cloth or plastic tarp to protect
them from accidental brake fluid
spills. Immediately wash spilled
brake fluid off any painted or plated
surface. Brake fluid will damage the
finish. Use soapy water and rinse the
area thoroughly.
b. Remove the front brake master cylinder
clamp bolts (Figure 6) and remove the front
