connecting rod must be installed so
this side faces the left crankshaft end
(the tapered end).
b. Apply engine oil to the connecting rod bear-
ing inserts.
c. If new bearings are going being installed,
check the connecting rod oil clearance as de-
scribed in this chapter.

e. Apply a light-grade molybdenum disulfide
grease to the threads of the connecting rod
studs.
f. Tighten the connecting rod nuts evenly.
CAUTION
When torquing a connecting rod nut
to specification, once 43 N•m (32
ft. lb.) of torque is applied, tightening
cannot be stopped until the final
torque value is achieved. If tightening
is interrupted between 43 48 N•m
(32 35 ft. lb.), loosen the nut to less
than 43 N•m (32 ft. lb.), then tighten it
to 48 N•m (35 ft. lb.) in one continu
ous motion.
g. Using a beam-type torque wrench, tighten
each connecting rod nut to 48 N•m (35
ft.-lb.). Apply continuous torque when tight-
ening the nut from 43 N•m (32 ft-lb.) to 48
N•m (35 ft.-lb.). Do not stop tightening the
nut until the final torque specification is
reached.
