4. Attach a cable lubricator to the cable following

bricator (Figure 40), press the button on the can and
hold it down until the lubricant begins to flow out of

If lubricant does not flow out the end

fraying, bending or other damage.
6. Remove the lubricator, and reconnect and adjust
the throttle cable as described in this chapter.

Clutch Cable Adjustment

Adjust the clutch cable free play at the interval in-
dicated in Table 1. The clutch will not engage or
disengage properly if the free play is not maintained
within the range specified in Table 5. Please note
that this clutch release mechanism loosens as the
engine warms up. Therefore, set the free play to the
minimum setting.
Measure clutch lever free play at the end of the
hand lever. If the clutch lever free play is outside the
range specified in Table 5, adjust free play as
follows:
1. At the clutch hand lever, pull the rubber boot (A,
Figure 42) back from the adjuster.
2. Loosen the clutch cable locknut (B, Figure 42).
3. Turn the adjuster (C, Figure 42) in or out to at-
tain the amount of free play specified in Table 5.
4. Tighten the locknut and reinstall the rubber boot.
5. If the proper free play cannot be achieved at the
hand lever adjuster, adjust the clutch release mecha-
nism as follows:
a. Remove the clutch adjuster cover (Figure 43)
from the alternator cover.
b. Loosen the locknut (A, Figure 44) on the
lower clutch cable adjuster.
c. Turn the adjuster screw (B, Figure 44) clock-
wise until it lightly bottoms, then back the ad-
juster out 1/4 turn.
d. Torque the clutch adjuster locknut to 12 N•m
(106 in.-lb.).

6. Recheck the amount of free play at the hand le-
ver and perform any minor adjustments at the lever.

Shift Pedal Adjustment

Measure the length of the shift rod on the shift
pedal assembly. The shift rod length equals the dis-
tance from the outside edge of the locknut at the
shift pedal end (A, Figure 45) to the outside edge of
the locknut at the shift lever end (B). If the length
does not equal the value specified in Table 5, adjust
the length as follows:
1. Loosen the locknut at each end of the shift rod.
2. Turn the shift rod (C, Figure 45) to attain the de-
sired length.
3. Tighten each locknut securely.
