Shock Absorber Spring Preload Adjustment

CAUTION
Never turn the cam ring beyond the
maximum or minimum position.
The spring preload can be adjusted to seven dif-
ferent positions to suit riding, load and speed condi-
tions. The third position is the default setting. The
different adjuster ranges are: soft (No. 1 and No. 2),
standard (No. 3), and hard (No. 4, 5, 6 and 7).
1. Remove the rider seat, passenger seat and ignitor
panel as described in Chapter Fourteen. Remove the
mud guard as described in Rear Fender Removal in
Chapter Fourteen.
2. Using the spanner wrench and extension from
the tool kit, adjust the preload by rotating the cam
ring (B, Figure 55) on the shock absorber. Turning
the cam ring to a higher numbered setting increases
the preload. Turning the ring to a lower numbered
setting decreases preload.
