a. Apply a dielectric compound to the electrical
connector prior to reconnecting it.
b. Make sure the electrical connector is free of
corrosion and both sides are completely cou-
pled to each other.
c. Install all items removed.
d. When installing shear bolts, tighten the bolt
until its head twists off.

Neutral Switch Replacement

The neutral switch sits in the bottom of the left
crankcase half.
1. Drain the engine oil as described in Chapter Three.
2. Disconnect the electrical lead from the neutral
switch (Figure 105).
3. Turn out and remove the neutral switch and its
washer from the crankcase (Figure 106).
4. Installation is the reverse of removal. Note the
following:
a. Apply a medium strength threadlocking com-
pound to the threads of the switch and torque
the neutral switch to 20 N•m (15 ft.-lb.).
b. Make sure the electrical connector is free of
corrosion and is tight.

Sidestand Switch Replacement

1. Remove the toolbox cover and the left side cover
as described in Chapter Fourteen.
2. Roll back the boot and disconnect the two-pin
sidestand switch connector (B, Figure 92) from its
harness mate.
3. Follow the sidestand switch electrical wire and
disconnect any holders or cable ties that secure it in
place. Note how the wire is routed along the frame.
The new switch wire must be rerouted along the
same path.
4. Remove the mounting screws (A, Figure 107)
and remove the sidestand switch (B) from the
sidestand bracket.
5. Installation is the reverse of these steps. Note the
following:
a. Apply dielectric grease to the electrical con-
nector prior to reconnecting it.
b. Make sure the electrical connector is free of
corrosion and both sides are completely cou-
pled to each other.

c. Make sure the sidestand switch electrical wire
is routed along the same path noted during re-
moval.
d. Secure the switch wire to the same points
noted during removal.

Clutch Switch Replacement

1. Disconnect the electrical connector (A, Figure
108) from the clutch switch.
