runout (side-to-side movement) or radial runout
(up-and-down movement) exceeds the specifica-
tion in Table 5, remeasure both axial and radial run-
out (Figure 49) as described in Chapter Ten.

FRONT SUSPENSION

Fork Oil Change

Yamaha does not provide an oil change interval
for the front fork. Nonetheless, it is a good practice
to change the fork oil once a year. If the fork oil be-
comes contaminated with dirt or water, change it
immediately.
Changing the fork oil requires disassembling and
assembling the fork leg. Refer to Removal/Disas
sembly (Fork Leg Requires Service) and Fork Leg
Assembly in Chapter Eleven.
Inspection
1. Apply the front brake and pump the fork up and
down as vigorously as possible. Check for smooth
fork operation and check for any oil leaks.
NOTE
Figure 50 shows the two lower fork
bridge clamp bolts on an XVS1100A
model. An XVS1100 model uses only
one lower fork bridge clamp bolt.
2. Make sure the upper (Figure 51) and lower
(Figure 50) fork bridge clamp bolts are tight.
3. Make sure the handlebar holder bolts (Figure
52) are tight, and the handlebar is securely held in
place.
4. Make sure the front axle clamp bolt (A, Figure
53) and axle (B) are tight.

If any of the previously mentioned fas
teners are loose, refer to Chapter
Eleven for correct tightening proce
dures and torque specifications.

STEERING HEAD

Check the steering head for looseness at the inter-
vals specified in Table 1 or whenever the following
conditions exist:
1. The handlebar vibrates more than normal.
