d. Turn the main switch on and check the volt-
age on the meter. If it does not read battery
voltage, the wiring between the main switch
and the flasher relay is faulty. Repair the wir-
ing if input voltage is less than battery volt-
age.
e. Reconnect the connector to the relay.
3. Check the output voltage from the relay as
follows:
a. Set a voltmeter to the 20 DV volt range.
b. Backprobe the flasher relay and connect the
voltmeter positive test lead to the relay's
brown/white terminal (B, Figure 86). Con-
nect the voltmeter negative test lead to a good
ground.
c. Turn the main switch on, and turn the flasher
switch on (either left or right).
d. Check the voltage on the meter. It should read
battery voltage.
e. Replace the relay if output voltage is less than
battery voltage.
f. Seal the wiring with silicon sealant.
5A. If a turn signal is not flashing, check the wiring
for the affected turn signal light as follows:
a. Set a voltmeter to the 20 DC volt range.
b. Locate the bullet connector for the affected
flasher (chocolate for the left flasher and dark
green for the right), and disconnect the con-
nector.
c. Connect the voltmeter positive test lead to the
harness side of the bullet connector; connect
the voltmeter negative test lead to a good
ground.
d. Turn the main switch on, turn on the turn sig-
nal switch for that side, and check the voltage
on the voltmeter. It should read battery volt-
age.
e. The wiring between the turn signal switch
and the connector is faulty if voltage is less
than battery voltage.
5B. If the turn signal indicator lamp is not flashing,
check the indicator lamp wiring as follows:
a. Remove the fuel tank and disconnect the me-
ter assembly connector (Figure 87) from its
harness mate.
b. Set the voltmeter to the 20 DC volt range.
c. Connect the voltmeter positive test lead to the
affected terminal in the harness side of the
connector: chocolate for the left side (D, Fig-
ure 66) and dark green for the right (E). Con-

nect the voltmeter negative test lead to a good
frame ground.
d. Turn the main switch on, turn on the turn sig-
nal switch for that side, and check the voltage
on the meter. It should read battery voltage.
e. If the reading is less than battery voltage, the
wiring between the turn signal switch and the
connector is faulty.

Flasher Relay Removal/Installation

The flasher relay sits directly in front of the start-
ing circuit cutoff relay (Figure 88) in the frame
neck. Removing the SCCR provides access the
flasher relay.
