clockwise to raise the brake pedal and coun-
terclockwise to lower it.
b. Tighten the locknut to 16 N•m (12 ft.-lb.).
c. Check the end of the brake pushrod. It must
be visible through the hole (C, Figure 64) in
the clevis.
4. After adjusting the brake pedal height, make
sure the rear brake does not drag. Readjust the brake
pedal height as necessary.
5. Adjust the rear brake light as described in this
chapter.

Rear Brake Light Switch Adjustment

1. Turn the ignition switch on.
2. Depress the brake pedal. The brake light should
come on when the brake pedal is depressed, and just
before the rear brake is applied. If necessary, adjust
as follows.
3. Hold the rear brake light switch body (A, Figure
65) and turn the adjuster nut (B) until the brake light
operates properly. Turn the nut clockwise and the
brake light comes on sooner; turn it counterclock-
wise and the light comes on later.
WARNING
Do not ride the motorcycle until the
rear brake light operates properly.
Initial 600 miles (1000 km) or 1 month
Constant vibration can loosen many fasteners on
a motorcycle. Check the tightness of all fasteners,
especially those on:
1. Engine mounting hardware.
2. Engine crankcase covers.
3. Handlebar and front fork.
4. Gearshift lever.
5. Drive shaft components.
6. Brake pedal and lever.
7. Exhaust system.
8. Lighting equipment.

Check the valve clearance; adjust as necessary
Check carburetor synchronization; adjust as necessary
Change engine oil and filter
Check clutch operation; adjust the cable free play
or replace the cable as necessary
Check the operation of the front and rear brakes;
replace the pads if necessary
Check brake fluid level in the master cylinders;
adjust as necessary
Check the operation of the sidestand
Lightly lubricate the pivot and contact surfaces
with lithium soap grease
Check the operation of the sidestand switch;
replace if necessary
Lubricate all control and meter cables
Check all fasteners; tighten them as necessary
Replace the final gear oil
