Steering Circuit Problems

Problem
The steering is inoperative or sluggish.

Possible Cause
Engine RPM is too low.
The hydraulic fluid level in the hydraulic
tank is low.
The steering components (e.g., tie
rods, steering cylinder ends) are worn
or binding.
The steering cylinder is binding.
The steering relief valve in the steering
control valve is stuck or damaged.
The steering cylinder leaks internally.
The charge pressure is low.

Corrective Action
Increase the engine RPM.
Adjust the hydraulic fluid level.
Repair or replace the components.
Check and clear the binding of the
steering cylinder.
Clean the relief valve and replace the
seals.
Repair or replace the steering cylinder.
Verify the charge pressure.
