Switch Fabric and Routing Engine (SRE) Module in an EX6200 Switch

NOTE:
If you have a Juniper J-Care service contract, register any addition,
change, or upgrade of hardware components at
https://www.juniper.net/customers/csc/management/updateinstallbase.jsp
Failure to do so can result in significant delays if you need replacement parts.
This note applies if you change the type of power supply from AC to DC or
DC to AC or add a new type of line card. It does not apply if you replace these
components with the same type of component.
Installing and Removing EX6210 Switch Hardware Components on page 149
The Switch Fabric and Routing Engine (SRE) module performs switching and system
management functions in an EX6200 switch. It also provides uplink connectivity through
four 10-gigabit SFP+ uplink ports. See
You can install one or two SRE modules in an EX6200 switch. A non-redundant EX6210
switch configuration has only one SRE module. You can add a second SRE module to
the configuration for Routing Engine and switch control redundancy. See
EX6210 Switch Component and Functionality Redundancy" on page
The SRE modules install horizontally into the front of the chassis in slots labeled 4 and
5.

NOTE:
We recommend that you install two SRE modules for redundancy. If
you install only one SRE module, we recommend that you install it in slot 4.
See
"Slot Numbering for an EX6210 Switch" on page
If two SRE modules are installed, one functions as the master and the other acts as the
backup. If the master SRE module fails or is removed, the backup takes over as the master.
The switch fabric circuitry on the backup SRE module is active; this allows the ports on
the switch to operate at wire speed. You can also use the uplink ports on the backup SRE
module.
