If two SRE modules are installed, the master and backup SRE modules are hot-pluggable.
If only one SRE module is installed, you must halt the SRE module before removing it.
See
"Taking the SRE Module Offline in an EX6200 Switch" on page
Each SRE module provides 64 Gbps of full duplex bandwidth per line card slot. If only
one SRE module is installed in a chassis, it supports 384 ports on eight line cards with
3:2 oversubscription. If two SRE modules are installed in a chassis, they provide 128 Gbps
of full duplex bandwidth to each line card slot, allowing all 384 ports to operate at wire
speed.
The SRE module provides these functions:
Provides full fabric connectivity to all line cards installed in the chassis
Powers the line cards on and off
Controls system resets and boot sequence for the switch
Monitors and controls the fan speed, power status for various chassis components,
LCD panel and chassis status LEDs
Provides uplink connectivity
The SRE module has these components:
Four uplink ports—Four 10-gigabit Ethernet SFP+ uplink ports. The ports are labeled
from left to right, 0 through 3. Since the switch fabric circuitry on the backup SRE
module is active, you can use the four uplink ports on the backup SRE module for uplink
connectivity.
Two management ports—A Gigabit Ethernet SFP management port and a 10/100/1000
BASE-T copper management port. The management ports can be used to connect
the SRE module to a management LAN for out-of-band management. See
an EX Series Switch to a Network for Out-of-Band Management" on page
NOTE:
Only one of the two management ports can be used for out-of-band
management at any given time. If an SFP transceiver is plugged into the
SFP management port, the copper management port is disabled.
Console port—Connects the SRE module to a system console through a cable with an
RJ-45 connector. See
"Connecting an EX Series Switch to a Management Console" on
page
186.
USB port—Provides an interface through which you can install the Junos OS or a
configuration file manually. See
page
57.
Recessed reset button—Power cycles the SRE module when pressed.
Take the SRE module offline using the CLI before pressing the reset button. See
the SRE Module Offline in an EX6200 Switch" on page
LCD Panel—Displays status information for the switch. See
Switch" on page
