Serial Port

The I/O riser card provides one RS-232C serial port. The serial port uses a D-subminiature 9-pin
connector. The serial port can be used either as an emergency management port or as a normal
serial port. As an Emergency Management Port (EMP), the serial port is used as a communication
path by the Server Management RS-232 connection to the BMC. This provides a level of
emergency management through an external modem or direct serial connection. The RS-232
connection can be monitored by the BMC when the system is in a powered down (standby) state.
Figure 129 shows the serial port connector, and Table 46 provides the pinout information.
