Use the password command in Line Configuration mode to specify a password on a line. To
remove the password, use the no form of this command.
Syntax
password

password — Password for this level. (Range: 8- 64 characters)

• encrypted — Encrypted password to be entered, copied from another switch configuration.
Default Configuration
No password is specified.

This command has no user guidelines.
Example
The following example specifies a password "mcmxxyyy" on a line.
console(config-line)# password mcmxxyyy
password
Use the password command in User EXEC mode to allow a user to change the password for only
that user. This command should be used after the password has aged. The user is prompted to
enter the old password and the new password.
