NOTE: You cannot add a device while the Online Channel
Interface is enabled from the Online Manager.

Device Options:
– Name: The user-supplied name that identifies each
configuration is limited to 40 characters. The printing
system references this name in the Online Manager.
– Address: The address specified on the host for the
printing system.
– Buffer Size: Determines how much data is collected
by the gateway before being transferred to the
decomposer. A large buffer size helps improve
throughput by reducing the number of times the
gateway must supply data to the decomposer. Using a
smaller buffer size may reduce throughput, due to the
increased overhead of processing many small blocks
of data. However, in the event of a system failure, data
in the buffer may be lost. This means the buffer size
should be reduced if concern about how data might be
lost during a system failure outweighs the need for
maximum throughput. This field has a valid range
between 4 KB and 64 KB, inclusive. The buffer size
default is set at 64 KB.
– Emulation: Provides the selection of Line Printer
emulations supported by the printing system. The
default is IBM 4245.
a. Do one of the following:
• Right-click the Devices group box and select
[Add...] from the menu. The Add Device dialog
opens.
• Right-click a device in the Devices group and
select [Modify...] from the menu. The Modify Device
dialog opens.
b. Type an identifying name; enter a valid address and buffer
size, and select an emulation mode from the Emulation
pull-down menu. Limits are listed by each field name.
NOTE: You cannot modify a device name.
c. Select [OK] to close the dialog. The new device is listed in
the Devices list.
5. If you wish to delete a device from the list, right-click the name
of the device, and select [Delete] from the menu. Then select
[Yes] to confirm you want to delete the device.
6. Select [OK] when you have completed the Online setup.
