Login Attempts Allowed can be used for both strong or weak
passwords.
a. Select [Enabled]. The spin box becomes available to use.
b. Once enabled, use the spin box to enter a number for the
maximum login attempts allowed. You can enter a number
from 1 to 6. The default selection is 3.
NOTE: The Login Attempts allowed policy applies to all
accounts, with the exception of the Root account.
c. The failed login message is displayed. The System
Administrator can enter a customized message.
NOTE: Users are warned to enter a correct login or their
account will be locked.
NOTE: The number of failed login attempts is not
configurable. Also, this function only applies to failed login
attempts via the DocuSP GUI and does not apply to the root
(su) user.
4. Select [OK].
NOTE: A restart is not required.
Once the feature is enabled, new users are forced to have a
strong password assigned to their account. The passwords for
existing users remain the same and can continue to be used as
they were set prior to enabling strong passwords. You can update
existing passwords as necessary.
NOTE: If you are running an NIS+ name service, strong
passwords are enforced via the NIS+ server.
Password expiration
Although DocuSP does not provide a means to set password
expiration on a user account, there are alternative ways to set
password expiration:
Using the command line
Using smc (Solaris Management Console)
To set MINWEEKS and MAXWEEKS, edit the passwd file in
the /etc/default directory. These values are set to null by
default on Solaris.
DocuSP does not prompt the user to enter a new password if it
has expired. Although, DocuSP does post an unknown user name
or password message if a password has expired. It is up to the
System Administrator to determine if the password has expired.
To determine if a password has expired:
1. Open the terminal window.
