System Memory

All of the main memory for the Eserver pSeries 670 consists of pluggable memory books in reserved
slots with two memory controllers per book. The memory books are available in various sizes. Memory
modules are not removable from the memory books. A minimum of 4 GB of memory must be installed for
the system to operate.
four slots, located on the front of the processor subsystem, are available for system memory books. These
slots are shown in "7040 Model 671 Processor Subsystem Front View" on page 20.

Memory Requirements

Note: The configuration of a system that was ordered with memory Capacity Upgrade on Demand
(CUoD) features will appear slightly different than the configuration in this discussion.
When the system is ordered, the installed memory is positioned according to the following guidelines:
v The pSeries 670 has four memory slots. Four memory slots use inward-facing memory cards. The
inward-facing memory slots are used by the first and second processor module positions.
v A pSeries 670 system with only one processor MCM position populated has access to only two
inward-facing memory slots.
v Minimum system memory is 4 GB. Maximum system memory is 128 GB.
v Memory is available in 4 GB, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB inward-facingincrements.
