The backup center functions as a part of the management and backup function to
provide backup for interfaces on your device. It delivers reliability by switching
traffic over to a backup interface when the primary one fails.
As shown in
Figure
578, interfaces Serial 2/0, Serial 2/1 and Serial 2/2 on Router A
back up one and another. Serial 2/0 takes on data transmission and Serial 2/1 and
Serial 2/2 are the backup interfaces and have different priorities.

When interface Serial 2/0 or its link to Router B fails, the backup interface with the
highest priority is enabled to transmit data, thus ensuring smooth data
transmission.
In a backup center, the interfaces include the following two types:
Main interface
Interfaces that are backed up are main interfaces (For example, Serial 2/0 in
Figure
578). A main interface can be any physical interface or subinterface, such as
an Ethernet, POS or ATM.
