Section 5: Parts and Module Replacement

2.8.10 LIGHT ENGINE

Wear gloves and an electro-static bracelet when working with the light engine.
(2 hours; includes 1 hour calibration)
1. Remove top lid. Refer to
2. Remove the 6 screws securing the high security cover, unlock the high security access lock, lift the
lid and slide out.
3. Disconnect the light engine power and communications harnesses from the FFIB. NOTE: Save
the harnesses and install on the replacement engine.
4. Use a #2 Phillips™ to remove the 8 screws around the light engine cover and a flat head
screwdriver to remove the 2 captive screws. NOTE: Cutouts in the cover provide access to the
captive screws.
5. Remove shutter assembly. Refer to
6. Remove the 3 hex screws (3mm) securing
the light engine to the IOS, 2 of which are
located on each side of the engine and the
3rd underneath the green DMD.
7. Remove the screws from both rear corners
of the engine and on the left/front side of
the engine, behind the blue formatter
board.
8. Cut the tie wraps on the harnesses.
9. Disconnect the temperature harnesses
from each DMD (Figure 2-67).
10. Disconnect the lamp exhaust harness.
11. Carefully lift the light engine out of the
projector with the hoses and harnesses
attached. Grasp from the bottom and rest
the light engine on the metal guard
portion.
12. Disconnect flex cables, power cables and coolant hoses. Install them onto the replacement light
engine. Reverse the above steps to install the light engine. NOTE: Always connect the temperature
sensors, and the red and green LVDS cables before installing the light engine. For more
information, refer to
13. Cover the light engine with an electro-static protective cover.
14. Complete a full optical report, which includes;
• Adjusting aperture shadows,
• reshooting MCGD,
• verifying TCGD correction,
• cutting new screen files and
