Servicing SPs

The servers have two redundant SPs: SP0 and SP1.
In SPARC M8-8 and SPARC M7-8 servers, the SPs are located in the CMIOU chassis.

In a SPARC M7-16 server, the redundant SPs (SP0 and SP1) are located in the switch chassis.
These SPs manage system activity. The SPARC M7-16 also contains two SPPs in each
CMIOU chassis that manage DCU activity. The top CMIOU chassis contains SPP2 and
SPP3, and the bottom CMIOU chassis contains SPP0 and SPP1. For information about SP

Replace a failed SP or SPP as soon as possible. Do not remove an SP or SPP until a

The SPARC M8-8 servers include SPs that are not compatible with the SPARC M7

servers. Never install a SPARC M8 SP in a SPARC M7 server, and never install a SPARC M7
SP in the SPARC M8-8 server. The SPARC M8 SP has a SPARC M8 label on its left extraction
lever (see "SER MGT and NET MGT Port Locations and Numbering" on page
SPARC M7 SPs do not have a label.
