Replacing the Flat Belts

WARNING: Before continuing with this procedure, review the Warning and
Caution statements listed in the Warning and Caution Statements and
General Safety Guidelines Section, Things You Should Know.
The AMT utilizes a four flat belt system that provides support to the
stairarms and allows fluid movement. There are two outside flat belts
and two inside flat belts. The two outside flat belts are routed from
the stairarm terminals, up over a flat belt pulley and through the
upper arm, terminating at the upper arm cams. The inside flat belts are
routed from the platform through a series of pulleys, terminating at
the upper arm cams.
The flat belt system has a predetermined life span of 100,000,000
strides, which will be monitored through the AMT's software. When the
stride count reaches 90,000,000, a message will be displayed on the
console, warning that the flat belts will need to be replaced. If the
belts have not been replaced by the time the stride count has reached
100,000,000 and a stride count reset has not been issued through
software diagnostics, the AMT will lock out the display with an out of
service, replace flat belts message.
