Before working on the engine, check that hull, rigging and engine installation are normal, and then
battery is fully charged.For mechanical troubleshooting, refer to relevant troubleshooting section in
this chapter. For checking and servicing outboard motor, refer to service procedures described in
this manual to perform the work safely.

Check that gear shift is
in neutral (N).

Check if starter motor
operates.

Check battery cables for
defective contact, ground lead
wire securing bolt for
looseness or disconnection,
starter motor positive terminal
for break, and fuse if it is blow.
Normal?
YES
Check operations of
starter solenoid.
Normal?
YES
