20. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
21. Measure the voltage between shift lock solenoid
connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?
YES
Go to step 22.
NO
Check for blown No. 9 (10A) fuse in the driver's
under-dash fuse/relay box. If the fuse is OK, repair
open or short in the wire between the No. 1
terminal of the shift lock solenoid connector and
the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
22. Connect the battery positive terminal to shift lock
solenoid connector terminal No. 1, and connect the
battery negative terminal to the terminal No. 2.
NOTE: Do not connect the terminal No. 2 to the
battery positive terminal or you will damage the
diode inside the shift lock solenoid.

23. Check that the shift lock solenoid operates.
Does the shif t lock solenoid operate properly?
YES
Check for a loose multiplex control unit
(driver's) connector. If necessary, substitute a
known-good multiplex control unit (driver's) and
recheck.
NO
Replace the shift lock solenoid.
