A-3 MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP ("CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT) CIRCUIT
CHECK
("CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT DOESN'T FLASH OR JUST REMAINS ON EVEN WITH SERVICE WIRE
CONNECTED TO DIAGNOSIS SWITCH TERMINAL AND GROUND TERMINAL.)
1. Battery positive voltage
2. Main fuse
3. Ignition switch
4. "IG" fuse in J/B
5. Malfunction indicator lamp
("CHECK ENGINE" light)
6. Combination meter
7. ECM (PCM)
8. Diagnosis switch terminal
9. Diagnosis connector-1
10. Relay/fuse box
STEP
1) Disconnect ECM (PCM) couplers with ignition switch
turned OFF.

2) Does malfunction indicator lamp ("CHECK ENGINE"
light) turn ON at ignition switch ON?
Is coupler connected "A" (terminal "A1") connected to ECM
2
(PCM) properly?
1) Using service wire, ground terminal "A1" with coupler
connected to ECM (PCM).

2) Does malfunction indicator lamp ("CHECK ENGINE"
light) flash at ignition switch ON?

ACTION
1. ECM (PCM) coupler disconnected
2. Body ground
3. Service wire
YES
"V" wire circuit
Go to Step 2.
shorted to ground.
Go to Step 3.
Poor connection.
D Service wire open
Substitute a known-
D "V/Y" wire circuit
good ECM (PCM)
open
and recheck.
Poor "B" wire
grounding
NO
