6-2-58 ENGINE GENERAL INFORMATION AND DIAGNOSIS (J18 ENGINE WITH WU TWC)
1) With ignition switch OFF, connect scan tool.
2) Turn ON ignition switch and clear DTC using scan tool.
3) Start engine and warm up to normal operating temperature.
4) Drive vehicle speed to 40 mph (60 km/h) or more. (engine speed: 2500 – 3000 r/min.)
5) Keep above vehicle speed for 8 min. or more. (Throttle valve opening is kept constant in this step.)
6) Release accelerator pedal and with engine brake applied, keep vehicle coasting (with fuel cut for 4 sec. or more)
and then stop vehicle and run engine at idle speed for 6 sec. or more.
7) Check DTC and pending DTC.
TROUBLESHOOTING (DTC P0136)
STEP
1 Was ENGINE DIAG. FLOW TABLE performed?
2 Exhaust System Check
1) Check exhaust system for leakage, loose connection
and damage.
Is it good condition?
3 HO2S-2 Output Voltage Check
1) Connect scan tool to DLC with ignition switch OFF.
2) Warm up engine completely.
3) Check HO2S-2 output voltage displayed on scan tool
while repeating racing engine.
Is over 0.35 and below 0.25 V indicated?
4 HO2S-2 Check
1) With ignition switch OFF, disconnect HO2S-2 coupler.
2) Connect voltmeter between E93-1 and E93-2 of
HO2S-2 coupler.
3) Start engine and check voltmeter while repeating racing
engine.
Is over 0.35 V and below 0.25 V indicated?
5 Short Term Fuel Trim Check
1) Run engine at 2000 r / min. for 60 sec.
2) With engine idling, check short term fuel trim displayed
on scan tool.
Is it within – 20 to +20%?
ACTION YES
Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE
DIAG. FLOW
TABLE.
Go to Step 3. Repair or replace.
Go to Step 5. Go to Step 4.
"P" or "Bl" circuit Replace HO2S-2.
open / short.
If wire and connec-
tion are OK, substi-
tute a known-good
ECM and recheck.
Intermittent trouble Go to DTC
or faulty ECM. P0171/P0172 Diag.
Check for intermit- Flow Table.
