DIAGNOSTIC FLOW TABLE

Was ENGINE DIAG. FLOW TABLE performed?

Ignition Spark Test
1) Check all spark plugs for condition and type referring to
SPARK PLUGS section.
2 2) If OK, perform ignition spark test referring to IGNITION
SPARK TEST section.
Is spark emitted from all spark plugs?
Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Check
Perform DTC Check referring to DTC CHECK in Section 6.

Is DTC stored in ECM (PCM)?
Electrical Connection Check
1) Check for proper connection to each ignition coil assem-
4 bly at each terminal and at spark plug.
Are they connected securely?
Ignition Coil Assembly Power Supply, Ground and
Trigger Signal Circuits Check.
5 1) Check these circuits for open and short.
Are circuits in good condition?
Ignition Coil Assembly Check
1) Substitute a known-good ignition coil assembly and re-
6 peat Step 2 of this table.
Is spark emitted from spark plug(s)?
Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor and its Circuits Check
1) Check CMP sensor power and ground circuits for open
and short, and CMP sensor for signal Voltage referring
to Steps 3, 4 and 5 of DTC P0340 DIAG. FLOW TABLE

in Section 6-2 or CODE No.42 FLOW CHART in Section
6E3.
Are check results satisfactory?
Ignition Timing Check
1) Check initial ignition timing and ignition timing advance
8 referring to IGNITION TIMING section.
Is check result satisfactory?
ACTION

YES
Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE
