6-2-68 ENGINE GENERAL INFORMATION AND DIAGNOSIS (J18 ENGINE WITH WU TWC)
DTC CONFIRMATION PROCEDURE (P0340)
1) With ignition switch OFF, connect scan tool.
2) Turn ON ignition switch and clear DTC using scan tool.
3) Crank engine for 5 sec. or more.
4) Check DTC and pending DTC.
DTC TROUBLESHOOTING (DTC P0340)
STEP
1 Was ENGINE DIAG. FLOW TABLE performed?
2 Is engine cranked?
3 Engine Start Signal Check
1) Check engine start signal circuit referring to Step 2 of
DTC P1500 Diag. Flow Table.
Is the result satisfactory?
4 CMP Sensor Power Supply Voltage Check
1) With ignition switch OFF, disconnect CMP sensor
coupler.
2) With ignition switch ON, check voltage between C25-2
and C25-1 terminal. See Fig. 1.
Is the voltage 10 – 14 V?
5 CMP Sensor Reference Signal Check
1) With ignition switch OFF, connect CMP sensor coupler.
2) Disconnect couplers from ignition coil assembly and
fuel injectors.
3) With ignition switch ON and crankshaft turned slowly,
check voltage between C20-10 and E92-35.
Does voltmeter indicator deflect between 0 – 1 V and
4 – 6 V 4 times while crankshaft turned two revolutions?
6 CMP Sensor Position Signal Check
1) With ignition switch ON and crankshaft turned slowly,
check voltage between C20-22 and E92-35.
Does voltmeter indicator deflect between 0 – 1 V and
4 – 5 V?

ACTION YES
Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE
DIAG. FLOW
TABLE.
Go to Step 3. Go to CRANKING
SYSTEM section.
Go to Step 4. Repair or replace.
Go to Step 5. Faulty "R / B" wire
and / or "V" wire.
Go to Step 6. Faulty "Y / R" wire or
CMP sensor.
If OK, substitute a
known-good ECM
and recheck.
Poor C20-22 and / or Faulty "Y / G" wire or
C20-10 terminal of CMP sensor.
