Chapter 12
W310 WLAN Gateway Wireless Features

Home W310 Gateway

A user group is assigned a home W310 gateway in one of the following manners:
An administrator can set the IP address of the home gateway for a user. This allows the
administrator to
— ensure that tunneling is spread evenly throughout the wireless system, or
— group users or departments logically within the network.
A home gateway is assigned to a user based on which home gateway to which the user
first associates. The W310 determines when a user is no longer connected to the
network so that when the user re-enters the network, the W310 with which the user first
associates will be the new home gateway. The scenario may find that many users are
associated to the same home gateway.
Use the show users profile command to display what mobile nodes or clients are on
each W110 (LAP), which clients use the W310 as its home gateway (and actually be
associated with a W110 on a different W310 in the wireless domain), and what clients have
roamed to the W310.
On networks where all links between the distribution switches and the core switches are
individual, point-to-point routed networks (routed core network), use a static home W310
gateway. This is set in the User Group Table in the Device Manager, or, in the CLI, use the
user-group <name> command to enter User Group mode and then use the home-
gateway CLI command to set the static W310.
