Multicast Transmission Rates

The multicast rate determines the rate at which broadcast and multicast packets are
transmitted by the LAP to the wireless network. Clients that are closer to the Access Point
can receive multicast packets at a faster data rate than clients that are farther away from the
LAP. The Multicast Rate should be set based on the size of the LAP's cell.
For example, if the LAP's cell is small (for example, the distance between LAPs is set to
Microcell), you can expect that all clients should be able to successfully receive multicast
packets at 11 MBits/sec. This means you can set the multicast transmission rate to 11 Mbits/
sec. However, if the LAP's cell is large, you need to accommodate clients that may not be
able to receive multicast packets at the higher rates. In this case, set the multicast
transmission rate to 1 or 2 Mbits/sec.
Note: Changes in operational mode of the W310 802.11g-template will reset multicast rates
to factory default.
By default this value is set to 2 Mbits/sec.
The following table displays the possible multicast transmission rates based on the distance
between LAPs.
