How To Configure WEP

The following procedure shows you how to configure WEP using the CLI or the W310
Manager interface. The procedure assumes you have logged onto the CLI or the W310
Manager.

Configuring WEP Using the CLI

1.
Create a Service Set Identifier (SSID). You enter SSID mode with this command.
W310-1(super)# ssid engineering@companya

Optional: Enable broadcast and disable closed system for the SSID. After each
command, a prompt displays telling you that the command reboots the W110 (LAP), it
is recommended that you type y for yes.
W310-1(super/SSID engineering@companya)# broadcast
transmit
This command will reboot the LAP(s) - do you want to
continue (Y/N)? y
W310-1(super/SSID engineering@companya)# closed-system
accept-any
This command will reboot the LAP(s) - do you want to
continue (Y/N)? y

Set the security mode for the wireless network to Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP).
W310-1(super/SSID engineering@companya)# security-mode wep
This command will reboot the LAP(s) - do you want to
continue (Y/N)? y
4.
Configure the WEP encryption keys. You can configure up to four keys for encryption
for one SSID in the SSID Table. The remaining SSIDs must use only one WEP key -
WEP Key 1. You also need to enter an encryption string of five ASCII characters for 64-
bit encryption, 13 ASCII characters for 128-bit encryption, and 16 ASCII Characters for
152-bit encryption. In the example below, the WEP encryption key is 1 and is 64-bit
encryption.

key 1 Co3a5
This command will reboot the LAP(s) - do you want to
continue (Y/N)? y
5.
Specify the WEP key that will be in effect for the wireless network. In this example
below, WEP Key 1 is the specified key.
W310-1(super/SSID engineering@companya)# wep-encryption-
key-effective 1
This command will reboot the LAP(s) - do you want to
continue (Y/N)? y
