Step 5: Configure the Service Set Identifier (SSID) Table Entry Parameters

Create a SSID Entry
Assign an SSID to a specific W110 (LAP) using the ssid CLI command.
Several parameters must be configured to meet the specific operating environments. In the
example that follows:
a.
An SSID named "guest" and "company" are created and assigned to all ports (guest) and
port 5 only (company) on the W310.
b.
Once the SSID is assigned,
— The SSID "guest" operates in a low security environment and does not require a
"closed system" or the suppression of the SSID in "broadcast" beacons. Using the
following CLI, the closed system is disabled and broadcast is enabled for guest.
Closed system must always be set for "accept-any" if broadcast is set to "transmit".
The ssid2lap command associates the SSID "guest" with all W110 ports.
— The SSID "company" operates in a high security environment and requires the
"closed system" and a security mode such as Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA). Using
the following CLI, the security mode is set to WPA and closed system is set to the
value of enabled or "not-accept-any".
c.
The VLAN is either a specified VLAN or by-user-group-table. If an SSID's VLAN is
set to an assignment "by user group table", then the user is able to roam between W310s
for wireless network access.
For each SSID Table, only one (1) SSID can have a VLAN assigned "by user group table".
In addition, each SSID must have a unique VLAN number assigned to it. The range for
VLAN IDs is 1 to 3071.
On bridged networks, you must configure each VLAN in Layer 2 before you assign VLANs
to the wireless network. This is done as follows:
- Use the set vlan CLI command, or
- Under the Device Manager tab, select Configure on the menu bar and then VLANs.
If closed-system is enabled (not-accept-any), the setting of the broadcast command has no
effect. With closed-system enabled, this prevents the SSID from being broadcast even if
broadcast was enabled.
d.
Security mode level will use the default "none". Use the show command to view the
SSID table entry to verify security-mode none.
