Chapter 12
W310 WLAN Gateway Wireless Features
On bridged networks, you must configure each VLAN in Layer 2 before you assign VLANs
to the wireless network. This is done as follows:
- Use the set vlan CLI command, or
- Under the Device Manager tab, select Configure on the menu bar and then VLANs.
You can assign a VLAN by user group table. For example:
If a user receives their user group name from a RADIUS server, the user group is
already configured and the VLAN is configured for the user group.
If a user group is not defined OR the SSID security mode is set to "none", then VLAN is
configured for this user group.
If there is no user group with a name equal to an SSID, then the VLAN from the default
user group is assigned. If it is not configured, it will be equal to the VLAN of the W310
inband interface. If no VLAN is configured for a W310, then you must define an
accessible VLAN. An accessible VLAN is defined to ensure roaming between W310s.
If an SSID is configured with a specific VLAN, this VLAN is used instead of the user group
VLAN. Only one SSID in the SSID Table for a specific W310 can use a user group, and,
only one SSID can have a VLAN assigned "by user group table".
For each SSID Table, only one (1) SSID can have a VLAN assigned "by user group table".
In addition, each SSID must have a unique VLAN number assigned to it. The range for
VLAN IDs is 1 to 3071.

Accessible VLAN

Accessible VLAN is a VLAN that can be seen by the W310 through its uplink. On some
networks (switched) all the VLANs are accessible, while on others, only a limited set is
accessible. An accessible VLAN does not require the tunneling of broadcasts to a W310 in
cases where a client on the accessible VLAN roams to a W310.
Normally, a VLAN is considered "accessible" if one of the following is true:
The VLAN is a port VLAN identifier (PVID)
The VLAN is the management VLAN
The VLAN is statically bound to any W310 port (but not "bind to all")
The VLAN of the user group for which its home W310 is the current W310
However, in the W310, this attribute in the SSID table enables the user to set the VLAN
associated with an SSID as accessible though it does not meet any of the above criteria. The
accessible VLAN is used when each SSID has a specific VLAN entry rather than when the
VLAN is set to "by user group table"
This functionality is disabled by default.
