Preventive Maintenance
Cleaning Orifice Tubes
Orifice tubes must be kept clean to ensure accurate analysis results. Follow the procedure
below to clean an orifice tube when:
• the orifice tube will not be used for at least one week
• air bubbles are forming on the inside of the orifice tube
• at least once a month when the orifice tube is in use
Do not touch or breathe vapors from the solvents used in this procedure. Failure
to observe these precautions could result in a health hazard. Refer to the Nitric
Acid MSDS and the Acetone MSDS for proper handling instructions. Dispose of all
solvents appropriately.
Do not attempt to clean the orifice with a hard or pointed object or by immersing
the orifice tube in an ultrasonic cleaner. Doing so could damage the orifice jewel.
You will need the following items to perform this procedure:
• Scrub brush (provided in the accessories kit)
• Rubber gloves
• Detergent
• Nitric acid
• Acetone
1. Protect your hands with rubber gloves.
2. Use detergent and the scrub brush to scrub the inside of the tube, then scrub across the
outside of the jewel.
