"Partitioned
Network" on page 3-12, describes how more than one database master
can come to exist in a network. Depending on the changes made while the network
was partitioned, databases in all ICPs, INMs, and NMPs may not automatically syn-
chronize when the network is reconnected. If they do not, printer messages will
indicate that it is necessary to perform database concurrency operations.
If a message has instructed you to perform concurrency opera-
tions, do them in this order:
1. Clear Remote Master,
2. Enable Backouts (if requested),
3. Database Recovery – only if needed.
These operations are accessed from the Database Concurrency Operations Menu
(
, then
from the Main Menu).

When a partitioned network is reconnected, each master reports that there is a multiple
master, and identifies the other master(s). The decision as to who will give up master
status should depend on what changes were made to each database. This is usually
determined by network operators discussing the changes and making the decision.
At the INM/NMP that will ultimately be the only master, perform the following steps
(you must have master status to do this):
1. Press
at the Database Concurrency Operations Menu.
[B]
2. Enter the node number of the master INM/NMP to be cleared.
3. Check all printed messages, to determine whether anything more must be done.
4. Press
once to return to the Database Concurrency Operations Menu, or three
[F3]
times to return to the Main Menu.
