Tiger Explorer XR Series
Before starting work, ensure the motorcycle is stabilised and adequately supported. This will help prevent it
from falling and causing injury to the operator or damage to the motorcycle.
Note
The cylinder liners must be resealed once the cylinder head has been removed.
Remove the engine from the frame (see Engine - Removal).
Remove the camshafts (see Camshafts - Removal).
Remove the camshaft drive chain, tensioner blade and rubbing strip (see Camshaft Drive Chain, Tensioner
Blade and Rubbing Strip - Removal).

Note the position of all tappet buckets and shims so that they can be refitted in the same positions. Remove
all the tappet buckets and shims.
Note
To prevent the tappet buckets and shims from becoming mixed, place the shim and tappet together
in a marked container. The components must be refitted in their original positions.
2.
Progressively release the cylinder head bolts in the order shown below.
