Setting up the target DL3D appliance

Configuring cartridge-based replication on a virtual tape library
144
EMC DL3D 1500 and DL3D 3000 Administrator's Guide
This action establishes the namespace structure on the target.
Establishing the namespace structure before any data is written will
enhance the first replication that occurs after the first backup.
Replicating the empty namespace is not mandatory. However, the
speed of the first replication after the first backup will be up to twice
as fast if the empty namespace is already replicated. This is useful
while backing up a significant amount of data.
You must authorize the target to receive data from a specific source
before the system can replicate data from a source system to a target
system. To authorize a target system to receive data from a source,
you must add the source hostname or IP address to the Source Host
List on the target system.
To add a source hostname or IP address on a target system:
1. Access the remote management pages on the target system.
2. On the Replication page, click Target Role.
The Target Role page appears.
3. Type the source system Hostname or IP address for the
replication source system and click Apply. You can define up to
20 sources.
Typing the hostnames or IP addresses of the replication source
systems on the target system lets the target receive replicated data
from these sources.
In addition to adding the source hostname or IP address on a target
system, you must follow these steps to configure cartridge-based
replication on the target system.
To configure cartridge-based replication:
1. Add a source hostname or IP address on the target system. See
"Setting up the target DL3D appliance" on page
2. Create a virtual tape library that will receive the replicated
cartridges from the source VTL. (Create media for the VTL only if
it will also be a source VTL - that is, used for bi-directional
replication. The media you create will replicate to a target VTL.)
See
"Creating a virtual tape library" on page
144.
