Configuring and managing data replication

142
EMC DL3D 1500 and DL3D 3000 Administrator's Guide
that have undergone namespace replication (either successfully
or partially) are available on the target DL3D as recoverable
images for each replicated share/VTL.
Cartridge-based replication and directory/file-based replication
With cartridge-based replication and directory/file-based
replication, the unique data associated with individual
files/directories and virtual tapes replicate from the source DL3D
to the target DL3D. The replication is triggered by either an
unmount command for a virtual tape or by executing a CLI
replication command for a file or directory. These files/directories
and virtual tapes replicate to a corresponding NAS share or VTL
on the target DL3D and are immediately recoverable. The remote
shares and VTLs contain the most recent copy of each replicated
file/directory and virtual tape.
Synchronization, in addition to the replication process, ensures that
the contents of the shares and VTLs on the source and target systems
are exactly the same by deleting files/directories or tape cartridges in
the target share/VTL that are not present in the corresponding
share/VTL on the source DL3D. Synchronization is performed
manually. You must specify the Sync ID first at the target system and
use the same Sync ID at the source system. The Sync ID creates the
match between the source and the target. Sync ID can be a string
(with no special characters), but you must set the same value on both
the target and source systems.
Configuring and managing data replication on the DL3D consists of
the following steps:
1. Verify the pre-requisites. See
page
143.
2. Set up the target DL3D appliance. Specify the source DL3D on the
target DL3D. You can identify up to 10 source systems on a single
target system. See
page
144.
