To access the Data Services page, in the contents frame, click Data
Services. The management frame displays the Data Services page.
The Data Services page is divided into the following tabs:
Space reclamation
Data replication
When backup application activities re-use cartridges or shares, the
data associated with that cartridge or share is no longer valid. This
activity results in unique data that can no longer be referenced by any
virtual tape or share. This data can be safely removed from the
system. The DL3D also deletes the metadata indices associated with
the data on each expired and relabeled cartridge or share.
The process that DL3D invokes to reclaim the storage space that the
un-referenced unique blocks have consumed is called space
reclamation.
Space reclamation is a processor-intensive operation and, by default,
is scheduled to run once weekly on Sunday at noon. This scheduled
time can be changed or the process can be invoked manually. Space
reclamation will also be activated automatically once DL3D storage
capacity reaches 95 percent full.
IMPORTANT
!
While using the replication feature, do not perform a space
reclamation until a namespace reclamation completes successfully
for all replicated shares and VTLs. If necessary, disable space
reclamation until a regular replication schedule can be achieved
and perform space reclamation only after namespace replication
completes.
